At Adams Boat Care - part 1

We have been docked at Adams Boat Care for 2 weeks now for the remodeling of the entrance. That is still quite a job. Carl had mentioned 6 days earlier, but we had already taken 2 weeks into account and it will probably take 3 weeks. It is also quite a complicated renovation with a lot of paintwork. Anyway, we have the time and it will be incredibly beautiful πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ!!!
During these 2 weeks we are both just working in our usual places in the boat. The rebuilding only produces occasional noise, especially when sawing to remove the old entrance. But good headphones work wonders 😎. We rent a car so we can easily go out for shopping and outings on the weekends. That's quite a hassle, because at the company where we had booked and paid in advance the payment machine doesn't work with our foreign passes and so we can't pay the small deposit for gasoline. Without the deposit we cannot take the car with us, because is it because of their machine or all our passes πŸ€”? After 2 hours of waiting and discussing we can finally cancel the booking and go with a cab to another rental company. There, fortunately, everything goes very smoothly and quickly πŸ˜ƒ.

The first week of the renovation is dominated by removing the woodwork of the old entrance, fitting the polyester box in which the new door slides and measuring the new wooden casing around the box and sides. Furthermore, we are waiting for a new iron frame for the door that was delivered by Rassy in the wrong size.
In his spare hours, Toine builds the new navigation screen in with all the wiring. I'm flying to the Netherlands Thursday night for a physical team session with colleagues and the second corona shot πŸ’‰πŸ˜ƒ. With the voucher from KLM that I still had from last year. A very nice outing ... good to see my colleagues physically again after a long time with a nice lunch outside on the terrace. Getting the shot in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht went very smoothly (thanks Maarten for bringing it) and finally a nice dinner with my sister on a terrace in Woerden. Late Friday evening, after a good flight and more than an hour's drive, I am 'home' again.
The weekend we take it easy on Saturday. It rains all day and I feel a bit flu-ridden. In the afternoon we visit Heleen, who has had a house here for 23 years and lives here full time now that she has retired. We met Heleen briefly last year when we were walking in the neighborhood and also last week I ran into her during my Friday walk. Nice to hear her stories about living in Sweden. On Sunday we will make that nice walk on HΓ€rΓΆn (we did it last year too) and afterwards we will have dinner on the terrace in the sun at the little restaurant we know in SkΓ€rhamn.

The second week is very warm with little wind, sunny and above 25 degrees. Now and then a short thunderstorm, but not comparable with the autumnal weather in the Netherlands with lots of rain, huge rain up to flooding. Our girls are doing well and are just as travel hungry as we are ☺️, both are a few days in the Netherlands and on Thursday Eline flies to Croatia for a vacation with 2 friends, and Marinthe to Sam in London. We don't need a house in the Netherlands at all 😎. The fact that we don't have a house anymore does give a lot of peace now ... we can go out without making arrangements about mail, mowing the lawn etc. A huge feeling of freedom πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ.

The second week of rebuilding is all about building the whole construct now that the frame has been delivered, gluing the polyester tub and a lot of painting. When the construction has been set up, Glen from Rassy comes by to judge it and to give Carl some tips. Very valuable, because Carl applies small changes based on that. The whole construction is taken apart again because there are still many layers of paint to be applied to the wood. At the red arrow is our boat πŸ˜ƒ.

On my free walking Friday, I take a 16 km walk around here. In the afternoon, a boy comes by to replace the hydraulic hose for the backstay and the boom stay. The hose needs to be replaced because a drop of oil regularly leaks into the backbox. Super service just before his vacation πŸ‘.

Over the weekend we are anchored around the corner near the wharf from Friday late afternoon until Sunday morning. It is still very warm, so great to be anchored in the breeze, to be able to swim and BBQ. Toine finishes a whole list of chores and I am mostly reading and writing this blog. On Sunday we take a nice walk in Ramsvik nature reserve, just north of Kungshamn. Carl is busy painting both days in the morning. Today he put the shiny paint on the outside of the door. We will see if we manage to finish it next week πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ.
